Progress! Over the past four years, we have devoted significant effort in preparing the historic three story, 15,000-square-foot Bast of Boonsboro Furniture Store for its new role as the Boonsborough Museum of History Annex.
This work has included installing modern HVAC systems, remediating crawlspace mold, restoring all windows, stabilizing exterior walls, rebuilding the parapet, upgrading electrical service and adding structural supports for the second and third floor joists. Whew!
The building is now ready to move into the next phase of development. The floor plan above represents a preliminary concept for the layout and design of the first floor. The first floor will feature a flexible event space with a catering kitchen, suitable for lectures, civic meetings, social gatherings, tour groups and film screenings. This area will be integrated with a 2,500 square foot exhibit space interpreting the origins and development of Boonsboro and its surrounding communities.
The second floor will include a reading room and library, along with a secure rare book and document room with controlled access. The third floor will provide storage and curatorial workspace.
As a nonprofit organization, this project is made possible through the generosity of supporters, community partners, grants, and donations.
